Since July, new accident information from FIRs, UP-112, the Traffic Social Media Cell and the Traffic Police Helpline is being monitored daily.
“Rather than simply counting crashes, the team will analyse every road-accident FIR registered in the commissionerate since January 2024, extract around 25 key parameters and build a central database,” said DCP Traffic Raveena Tyagi on Tuesday. Lucknow police is now attempting to answer that question with PRAMAAN (Police Road Accident Monitoring, Assurance and Analytics Network), a dedicated five-member team tasked with turning accident records into preventive road-safety action under the Zero Fatality District (ZFD) programme. The details include the exact accident location, latitude and longitude, time, vehicles involved, collision type, casualties, road classification, junction or mid-block location and other factors relevant to identifying recurring crash patterns. The police will also cross-check these details against the Centre’s e-DAR/iRAD accident database. Locations emerging as recurring or serious crash hotspots will be physically inspected, with police examining road geometry, visibility, lighting, signage, median openings, pedestrian movement, parking, junction design and other local conditions.
Because an incorrect location or road classification could eventually result in the wrong engineering or enforcement intervention, officials said the exercise aims to identify missing, incomplete or inconsistent entries, which is important.
