Varanasi: Nizamabad police in Azamgarh district arrested a 42-year-old Mumbai-based Mohammad Ibraq Khan for obtaining an arms licence and govt benefits using forged address and identity documents. Singh said Nizamabad police received an alert on Sept 29 that Mirza Ayaz Beg of Mirzapur village and his associates had shown outsiders as local residents, created false address records and fabricated documents to secure arms licences and official benefits for money. After collecting evidence, police registered an FIR against Beg, Khan and unidentified persons under BNS Sections 61(2), 318(4), 336(3), 338 and 340(2), and Arms Act Sections 29 and 30. Police arrested Ibraq Khan of Mirzapur village from his flat in Andheri West, Mumbai, on Oct 1 after an investigation revealed he had procured an arms licence with the help of Beg gang.

ASP said police had also received information that Beg had procured eight arms licences in the names of family members and relatives. During investigation, the Azamgarh police found that one Mirza Ayaz Beg facilitated not only Ibraq but also many to procure arms licenses on forged documents. An investigation into his role in the procurement was underway, he added.

Azamgarh ASP Madhuvan Kumar Singh on Monday produced Mohammad Ibraq Khan before reporters after he was brought from Mumbai.

Investigators said that licence procured for this revolver was issued on Jan 22, 2010, on the Mirzapur vilage address using forged school transfer and family register records. Both names reportedly appeared in SIR voter list-2026, though village records did not confirm residency. During same investigation cops found that another arms licence was also issued on the same adddress in the name of Shahid Mohammad Khan of Andheri West Mumbai.
