AICC chairman of vichar department, Praveen Davar
Lucknow: All India Congress Committee (AICC) functionary Praveen Davar on Thursday said that reading Jawaharlal Nehru ’s ‘The Discovery of India’ will be made compulsory in all schools if the party forms a govt at the Centre in 2029. In fact, if the Congress forms govt at the Centre in 2029, the teaching of ‘Discovery of India’ will be made compulsory in all schools,” said Davar, who is chairperson of AICC’s vichar department.
He also said that the party would undertake a campaign to take Nehru’s ideas and writings to the younger generation. “We have set a target of holding around 200 meetings across UP to take his thoughts to the people and apprise them of Nehru’s contribution to the country’s development and his political and social ideas,” he said, adding, “This will be in addition to posting excerpts from Nehru’s ‘The Discovery of India’ on social media. “The BJP govt is selling the PSUs built by Pandit Nehru after Independence to big capitalists, while the country’s youth are struggling with unemployment,” he said.
“Modern India was shaped by the ideas and vision of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, but the BJP’s IT cell keeps spreading lies about him. Excerpts from the ‘The Discovery of India’ will soon be circulated on social media to provide Gen Z with the correct history and facts to counter the lies being peddled by BJP machinery. At the state level, the UP Congress vichar unit has decided to hold meetings in Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Azamgarh, Ayodhya, Jhansi and Siddharthnagar by Sep-end. Davar also attacked the BJP govts at Centre and in UP, alleging failures on foreign policy, unemployment and management of public sector undertakings. He also urged Congress workers to highlight the contributions of Nehru, BR Ambedkar and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and counter what he described as misinformation about them.
