Varanasi: On Friday, Sonbhadra Police apprehended Roshan Kumar, a suspect in a robbery that occurred at a jeweller’s store in Jayant, Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, on Thursday. The arrest took place during a police encounter in Shaktinagar, where Kumar is from. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing as they work to gather more information about the incident and any additional suspects involved.

Police have seized a pistol, cartridges, cash worth Rs 50,000, gold ornaments bearing the jeweller’s tag, mobile phones and a motorcycle from his possession.

In the joint action of cops of Anpara, Pipari police station and SOG, Roshan suffered a bullet injury in his leg during the exchange of fire, said Sonbhadra SP Abhishek Verma . A case was registered at Anpara police station and further action is underway, said the SP. The injured accused was sent to hospital for treatment. After taking the shop owner and others present at the shop at gunpoint, they snatched mobile phones and fled with gold and silver ornaments along with cash. When resisted, the robbers opened fire, leaving the shop owner and another person injured. Singrauli police sounded an alert after the incident. Sonbhadra police also increased vigil in bordering areas. The police teams from Anpara, Shaktinagar, Pipri and SOG, led by CO (Pipri) Harsh Pandey, began checking near Belwadah picnic spot turn. On spotting two motorcycle-borne suspects, the police tried to stop them, but they opened fire. In retaliatory action by the police, Roshan got injured and was arrested while his accomplice Rahul managed to escape.

On Thursday, six armed men entered the jewellery shop in Singrauli. On Friday morning, Sonbhadra cops received inputs regarding the entry of the accused in the district.
