In Bijnor district, five police officers from the Nangal police station have been suspended due to alleged negligence and procedural breaches. This action comes after a history-sheeter reportedly died by suicide during a police operation in Gurgaon. The raid was part of an effort to apprehend a suspect involved in an attempted murder case. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation as authorities review the actions taken by the police during the operation.
Police said the incident took place on Tuesday when a team led by sub-inspector Har Swarup Sharma, along with constables Sujeet Kumar, Rohit Kumar, Pawan Sharma and Arun Rajorao, raided the rented accommodation in Gurgaon where Dikendra Pal, 35, was allegedly sheltering Pankaj Kumar , 27, a wanted accused in a firing case. Police said a case had been registered against Pankaj and another accused, Monty, under BNS section 109(1) (attempt to murder) following a firing incident in which they allegedly attacked a woman in Tisotra village on Aug 15.
He was taken to a hospital in Gurgaon, where he died during treatment, police said. Pal, a Bijnor resident, had eight criminal cases registered against him, including those related to attempted murder and theft, police said. “An inquiry found that the police team had neither informed senior officers nor obtained the required written permission before conducting the interstate raid,” said Bijnor superintendent of police (SP) Krishna Kumar Bishnoi.
Pankaj was arrested during the operation, while Pal allegedly shot himself with a country-made pistol, apparently fearing arrest. Pankaj had been on the run While Monty was arrested and sent to jail. His location was traced to Gurgaon on Tuesday.
