SP rule marked by corruption, poor law and order: Pankaj

Uttar Pradesh BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary

Lucknow : Launching a scathing attack on Samajwadi Party , Uttar Pradesh BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary on Sunday said SP’s 34-year-long political journey in the state had been marked by corruption, poor law and order, dynastic politics and irregularities. He cited a series of controversies and incidents, including the 1994 Rampur trisection episode, the 1995 Lucknow guest house incident and the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, among other major law-and-order failures.

“SP claims to follow the ideals of socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia, but what was seen when it ruled the state was exactly the opposite,” Chaudhary said. Raising issues related to govt recruitment, teacher appointments and alleged caste-based favouritism, as well as cases challenged in courts, he said questions had repeatedly been raised over fairness and transparency in recruitments during the SP govt. Contrasting the two parties, Chaudhary said BJP govt was focused on development, good governance, transparency and the rule of law, and asserted that voters in Uttar Pradesh now prioritised governance and development over identity-based politics.

The BJP leader accused Akhilesh Yadav-led govt of concentrating power within a single family and allowing political interference in administration and policing. He also questioned the transparency of various decisions taken during the SP’s tenure, including the distribution of Yash Bharati awards and recruitment processes in govt departments. Chaudhary alleged irregularities in flagship schemes such as the free laptop programme and unemployment allowance scheme. Referring to audit observations, he claimed that the benefits promised to youths did not reach all intended beneficiaries. Highlighting women’s safety and internal security, the Union minister referred to incidents such as Badaun case, Kairana migration controversy and the murder of journalist Jagendra Singh, claiming these reflected serious governance concerns during the SP’s tenure.
