SRNH docs remove rare adrenal tumour attached to major vein: The wider industry impact

A complex surgery to remove an adrenal tumour from a 32-year-old woman was successfully performed at SRN Hospital on Friday.

Prayagraj : Doctors at Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital successfully performed a complex surgery to remove an adrenal tumour from a 32-year-old woman on Friday. Investigations conducted at the urology department of SRN Hospital revealed a tumour in her right adrenal gland.

SRN Hospital media in-charge Dr Santosh Kumar Singh said the operation was performed under the leadership of Dr Dilip Chaurasia, head and professor of the urology department. The procedure involved removing and repairing a portion of the inferior vena cava (IVC), the body’s largest vein, to separate the tumour that had become attached to it. The patient, Sudha Devi, a resident of Meja, was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after the surgery and is under close observation. She had been suffering from pain on the right side of her abdomen and significant weight loss for nearly a year. Further tests were carried out to assess the possibility of pheochromocytoma, a type of adrenal tumour that can produce excess hormones. Dr Shreesh Mishra and Dr Gajendra Singh were part of the surgical team. During the open surgery, doctors found that the tumour was firmly attached to the IVC, making its removal particularly challenging.
