The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh govt has approved ₹3.29 crore to procure 11 Hand-Held Explosive Detectors (HHEDs) to bolster the state’s bomb detection and anti-sabotage preparedness, according to an official order issued by Home (Police) Department. Governor Anandiben Patel granted administrative and financial approval of ₹3,29,77,670 for the purchase, with each detector priced at ₹29.98 lakh inclusive of taxes.

The proposal for the procurement was moved by the additional director general of police (headquarters). The detectors are to be deployed with specialised units including Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS), anti-mine teams and anti-sabotage checking teams, which conduct security sweeps at sensitive locations and during VIP movements and large public events. Govt order clarified that the approval is a sanction for procurement and does not constitute an automatic purchase order. Uttar Pradesh Police Headquarters or Security Headquarters in Lucknow will carry out procurement under prescribed financial rules and procedures, within the approved limit. The department has been directed to assess specifications, quality standards, quantity and operational needs before finalising the purchase.
