Meerut : A 44-year-old farmer was murdered by his wife and her lover in Baghpat ’s Kotana village, with the woman repeatedly seeking updates from her lover through text messages as he carried out the killing, police said on Wednesday.
Police said the two had been in a relationship since 2024 and conspired to kill Pramod after he learnt about it and objected. Sikander persuaded Pramod to accompany him to a tubewell to drink alcohol around 9.30 pm. Sikander then strangled him and dumped his body in a sugarcane field around 150 metres from the tubewell, police said.
Sikander later messaged her that he had carried out the murder, police said. Sikander had been running a motorcycle repair shop in a rented portion of Pramod’s house for three years, police said. Police said their role was being examined.
The accused, identified as Urmila and motorcycle mechanic Sikander Singh alias Kala, were arrested in connection with the murder of Pramod Kumar , a resident of the Baraut area. He mixed intoxicating tablets in the liquor and attacked Pramod with a bottle after he became heavily intoxicated. The case was cracked after police examined the accused’s call detail records and questioned them. Pramod’s brother, Vinod, had initially named four villagers in the FIR.
The murder took place on Sunday night after Pramod and Urmila went to watch a Ramleela performance, according to police.
