KMC officials said they have plans to conduct food safety drives in the run-up to Durga Puja

At one of the restaurants in Hatibagan, the team threw away fish, curd and other food items that they said had been in storage for many days. KMC officials said they have plans to conduct food safety drives in the run-up to Durga Puja and even on the days of Puja. The team picked up samples. At Phoolbagan, the inspectors instructed the restaurant staff not to store chicken and other perishable food beyond a period and asked them to label the date of storage of the food. They also asked the restaurant staff not to use industrial ice. Some of the products stored in the refrigerator were already past the expiry date. The drive threw up pictures of widespread hygiene lapses, including rotten food, poor sanitation, pest infestation, improper food storage and contaminated kitchens in eateries, restaurants, hotels and sweet shops. Many licences were suspended temporarily, with some of them being restored already. Kolkata : Food safety inspectors of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Thursday visited several eateries in Hatibagan and Phoolbagan areas.
