Analyst Chase Senior suggested the team could command as much as $15 billion if it were ever sold, pointing to recent developments around the organization and its owner, Jed York. The Seahawks just sold for nearly $10 billion. The Lakers sold for $12.5 billion. The 49ers could easily sell for $13-15 billion right now. Until the organization or ownership says otherwise, the $13 billion to $15 billion figure remains an analyst’s projection rather than a confirmed asking price.
A wild theory about the San Francisco 49ers has suddenly put the franchise’s ownership under the spotlight. There is no indication that a sale is actually underway, but the suggestion was enough to send NFL fans into a frenzy. Senior’s comments come at a time when York has faced heightened attention following legal trouble in Ohio. York pleaded no contest to amended misdemeanor charges stemming from an undercover sting in East Palestine. The case ended with financial penalties, credited time served and other consequences. That alone does not point to an impending change in ownership. Senior, however, highlighted several developments that he believes make the question worth asking. “The 49ers have sold stakes of the organization recently. It’s fair to ask and wonder if the 49ers are about to get sold,” Senior remarked. The comparison with recent major sports transactions adds another layer to the speculation. A franchise valued in the range Senior suggested would represent a staggering price tag and could attract enormous interest if the owners ever chose to explore a sale. For now, though, the DeBartolo-York family remains in control of the 49ers. Once the speculation reached social media, fans quickly turned the discussion into a mix of serious debate, jokes and outright disbelief.
