Dallas scored on its opening drive, then added only a field goal until a fourth-quarter drive ended in a George Pickens touchdown that got Dallas within a score. A touchdown and a field goal across three quarters is thin output for a team that came in as a heavy favorite. Prescott got the ball into his receivers’ hands at times, yet the offense found little rhythm before that drive.

Dak Prescott answered a hand question with a flat denial after the Dallas Cowboys fell 24-16 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night. Prescott threw for 316 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Dallas was an 8.5-point favorite against a Tampa Bay team starting undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels in place of the injured Baker Mayfield.

Because his right hand was wrapped after last week’s win over the Houston Texans and unwrapped at AT&T Stadium, reporters asked.

Asked after the game whether anything was wrong with the hand and whether it hurt his play, he said, “Absolutely nothing wrong with my hand. The upset leaves Prescott and the offense under a harsher light than the hand ever did. Prescott did not hedge. The question had a visual trigger. That kind of change gets noticed. The paper trail is clean, though. He was not on the injury report heading into the game, and his stat line does not read like one from a quarterback struggling to grip the ball.

Prescott was seen with the hand wrapped at the end of the Texans win, but there was no wrap on Thursday.
