“Maximizing my time being a father, being a husband”: Patrick Mahomes’ clock emoji obsession comes with a family secret and personal motivation (Image via Getty: Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes)
Surprisingly, the clock emoji shows the time at 2 PM. After Mahomes’ team beat the Denver Broncos in Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season, Brady said the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback was back to being himself after a brutal December 2025 knee injury. Because he knows he cannot get that time back, he wants to make the most of it.
So, he uses that emoji as a personal reminder, a nod to his “2 PM” nickname, and a tribute to his family. He uses it to make the most of his time as a Kansas City Chiefs player, Brittany Mahomes ’ husband, and father of three children: Sterling Skye Mahomes, Patrick Lavon “Bronze” Mahomes III, and Golden Raye Mahomes. “Yeah, so at first, I got the nickname ‘2 PM’ from my dad and his friends and stuff like that, for Patrick Mahomes II,” Mahomes said. “I’ve always been big on time, and that’s like time spent with my family, time spent in the building; you have to maximize it, and it’s something that’s super important to me,” Mahomes said. “I think, in a lot of ways, he’s back to being Patrick Mahomes,” Brady said in his latest NFL power rankings.
It serves as a constant reminder that the time he has now with his family and team is invaluable. “So the clock just kind of fits in perfectly for that, and it’s more of just like who I am. It’s maximizing my time in this league, maximizing my time being a dad, being a father, being a husband, and you can’t get it back, so you have to maximize it. Whoever values time definitely values discipline. And speaking of Mahomes’ discipline, who better to ask than NFL legend Tom Brady?
