The development came on the day chief minister DK Shivakumar was in the city to inaugurate the Kalyana Karnataka Utsava, which commemorates the end of the Nizam of Hyderabad’s rule on September 17, 1948. It was removed in the presence of police, PTI reported. All important roads in the city were covered with posters, flexes and banners carrying Shivakumar’s picture. The installation drew curiosity among onlookers, who assumed it had been put up by the district authorities. Later in the night, municipal officers learnt that the statue had been installed without permission and swung into action. Download the TOI App.
KALABURAGI: Municipal authorities removed a nine-foot-tall statue of former chief minister Siddaramaiah installed near the High Court Road intersection in Kalaburagi ahead of the Kalyana Karnataka Utsava, sources said on Thursday. Siddaramaiah’s fans had installed the statue in the city on Wednesday, news agency PTI reported, according to sources. Shivakumar inaugurated the Utsava on Thursday.
