Tom Brady is entering his third season as Fox’s lead NFL analyst, and he does not sound interested in walking away. The seven-time Super Bowl champion reiterated his commitment to the network while addressing criticism over balancing broadcasting with his ownership role with the Las Vegas Raiders. Brady made the comments in a recent Sports Business Journal feature about Fox’s development of NFL on-air talent.
He spent 23 NFL seasons almost entirely focused on playing quarterback. Because he is working NFL broadcasts while also holding an ownership stake in an NFL franchise, brady’s situation is unusual. Because brady built his playing career around preparation, the debate is especially relevant.
“It’s clickbait for people and it’s something that people have no idea what they’re really glomming onto,” Brady told Sports Business Journal. I have a lot to prove to the executives,” Brady said. “They just put it out there in the world and see what sticks. So to me, I just focus on what I need to do to be prepared. That’s what I did as a player, and I go out there every week as a broadcaster and try to do the same thing. “I have a lot to prove to myself, to my teammates. His Raiders role brings restrictions on his access to other teams. That creates a different preparation process from broadcasters who do not have ownership ties inside the league. His current setup asks him to divide that attention in a way he never had to during his playing career. Brady wants to prove he can continue improving as a broadcaster while remaining involved with an NFL team. The criticism will probably follow him as long as those roles overlap.
