God of War Laufey arrives on PS5 on February 16, 2027, confirmed at the studio’s San Diego Comic-Con panel on Friday. The 20-minute slice Sony aired at June’s State of Play opened with Kratos and Atreus burning Faye’s body, the scene players know from 2018’s God of War. The 2027 date wasn’t a shock. Sony had already confirmed a physical disc release for Laufey, which pointed squarely at next year, and that confirmation landed while the company was absorbing backlash over its plan to stop pressing PlayStation discs from 2028. Head of creative Cory Barlog said a new Kratos-led God of War is in development, will follow Laufey, and connects directly to what Faye does in her game. “Everything in the game is setting up for something so amazing,” he told the panel. A remake of the Greek trilogy is also in the pipeline, though Santa Monica says the work is still at an early stage.
