Three senior House Republicans want Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang: The wider industry impact

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang asked to explain Megaspeed ties

Three senior House Republicans want Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang in a closed room on November 18. The request came on November 5 from Brian Mast, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, John Moolenaar, who heads the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, and Rick Crawford, who leads the House Intelligence Committee. He has until November 11 to accept the date or suggest another. Megaspeed was formed in 2023 when Chinese gaming company 7Road spun off its overseas operation in Singapore. The association goes back at least to June 2024. The two were photographed together again in May 2025, leaving a Taipei restaurant after a business dinner.

Nvidia has not said whether its CEO will attend. Spokesperson John Rizzo told The New York Times that Huang has “an outstanding security team that accompanies him where needed. American spy agencies learned about her relationship with the Nvidia chief while she was under surveillance, according to NYT. An earlier NYT investigation described a late-night gathering of Nvidia’s Asian customers at a Taipei bar, where she told the group, “I bet you guys I can get Jensen here.

Their question is narrow but awkward: how well does he know Alice Huang, a former executive at Singapore-based data centre firm Megaspeed, whom US officials determined was passing information to Chinese intelligence? In a joint letter, they asked Huang to brief them on his interactions with Alice Huang and on how Nvidia guards against espionage by foreign adversaries. The chairmen wrote that Congress needs to establish “the extent to which U.S. national security has been placed at risk. Alice Huang, also known as Huang Le, is a Chinese citizen who was listed as Megaspeed’s managing director for the company’s first eight months before her name was removed from that role in corporate filings. The two Huangs are not related. That set off alarms in Washington over whether she could be picking up sensitive trade or security information from him. He turned up shortly after.

Megaspeed bought billions of dollars of Nvidia AI hardware

Megaspeed’s Malaysian sister company bought at least $4.8 billion of advanced AI equipment containing Nvidia chips between June 2024 and February 2026, NYT reported, citing trade records from the platform ImportGenius. US officials have been examining Megaspeed since late 2024, when a Commerce Department official visited its Malaysian data centre and found Nvidia equipment still packed in boxes.

Nvidia says it complies with the law and has seen no evidence that its chips were smuggled into China. Rizzo has said that meeting customers comes with a CEO’s job, and that Huang speaks with thousands of customer executives every year. Megaspeed has said it follows all applicable laws, including US export controls.

A large share of the early shipments came from Aivres, the California-based arm of Inspur, a Chinese firm the US has sanctioned for supporting the Chinese military. Hardware sitting unopened like that often suggests it is passing through rather than being installed. Singapore police are also investigating the company.

He joined the president on his 2025 Middle East trip, and Nvidia donated more than $20 million towards the White House ballroom while promising $500 billion in US manufacturing investment. Moolenaar’s committee opened an inquiry into Nvidia’s chip sales across Asia in April 2025, but the administration later relaxed restrictions on sales to China. If Huang takes the November 18 date, he will have to answer it himself, even if it happens behind closed doors.

The letter is a break from form. Republican leaders have mostly followed President Trump’s hands-off line on the tech industry, and Huang has grown close to Trump over the past two years. What changed is the midterms. Voters made it clear they are worried about AI eating into jobs and giant data centres coming up near their homes, and that sentiment largely helped Democrats. NYT sees the letter as an early signal that Republicans do not want to leave that issue to the other side. Democrats have been pressing too. Senator Elizabeth Warren, the top Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee, asked Huang to testify in June. He declined, and she renewed the request last week.So far, Nvidia has answered the Alice Huang question through a spokesperson. You use AI every day. Now get your AI Quotient. Take the AIQ test.
