President Trump suggested that the Strait of Hormuz be renamed to ‘Trump Strait’, asserting U.S. dominance over this crucial maritime route.
The White House said on August 28 that US forces had established control of the waterway, citing the clearance of Iranian mines, the movement of nearly 1,500 commercial vessels under US protection and the redirection of vessels attempting to breach the US blockade. US central command said American forces completed a wave of strikes against Iranian military targets on September 1, including air-defence sites, radar systems, maritime assets, mine-laying capabilities and communications facilities.
US President Donald Trump has suggested renaming the Strait of Hormuz as the “Trump Strait”, saying the move could be considered after what he described as the United States gaining control of the strategic waterway. Trump said in a post on Truth Social. CENTCOM said in July that the blockade would target maritime traffic entering and leaving Iranian ports, while US forces would continue supporting vessels not violating the blockade.
