The mails were sent to schools, courts, AMC and Narendra Modi Stadium
Police registered the second case on Tuesday after another threatening email targeted 19 locations, including 14 schools, govt offices, courts and the stadium. The message again referred to Khalistan and warned people against attending Dosanjh’s Nov 21 concert. The investigation revealed that he sold hacked Gmail accounts to a person in Bangladesh, who resold them to someone in Pakistan for cryptocurrency.
Earlier, Gujarat Police had arrested an individual from West Bengal in a similar bomb threat case.
The first case was registered on Oct 7 after emails threatening bomb blasts were sent from two IDs to 16 locations, including 10 schools, Gujarat High Court, other courts and the stadium. The messages invoked Khalistan and threatened explosions at singer Diljit Dosanjh’s shows scheduled for Nov 1 in Delhi and Nov 21 in Ahmedabad. An examination of email headers and information obtained from Gmail indicated the accounts were accessed from Bangladesh and Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Investigators suspect the accounts used to send the threats were old.
Further investigation indicated that Pakistan-based individuals were procuring compromised email accounts through Telegram and WhatsApp groups to send threats ahead of festivals and other important events, allegedly to create fear among the public.
