KRISHNAGIRI: Police have launched an investigation after three unidentified men attempted to break into some houses in Shanthi Niketan Layout and Manjunatha Layout on the outskirts of Hosur in the early hours of Tuesday.
Residents said the gang entered Shanthi Niketan Layout around 2.55am on Tuesday and surveyed two houses by climbing staircases and checking the premises. About 30 minutes later, the gang attempted another break-in in nearby Manjunatha Layout. Police were informed around 3.30am, after which personnel from a nearby check-post and a patrol team reached the area and began inquiries.

A senior police officer said footage from several locations was being examined and leads verified. “Additional night patrols have been strengthened, and efforts are under way to identify and trace the suspects,” the officer said. CCTV footage of the incidents shows three men moving through residential streets and trying to enter several houses. The suspects reportedly left after noticing that the houses were occupied. They then tried to force open the main door of a third occupied house using tools, which became lodged in the lock. Alerted by the noise, residents switched on the lights and tried to open the door, but the damaged lock had jammed. The suspects fled the scene. Neighbours later removed the tools, allowing the occupants to open the door. The occupants heard suspicious sounds and switched on the lights, prompting the suspects to flee. Preliminary inquiries indicated that the same three people could have been involved in both incidents, with CCTV footage showing similarly dressed men following the same method. Download the TOI App.
