The issue came up during the hearing of an appeal filed by Peesari Gopaiah, a farmer from Yadadri-Bhongir district, over a 2009 court order relating to fencing of land. Nalla Venkat Reddy, also from the district, had obtained an order from the lower court in Nov 2025 directing the police to provide protection while carrying out the work. Meanwhile, the court directed the police to provide protection only in line with the lower court’s order and posted the case for further hearing on September 23.
Venkat Reddy, however, said police protection was needed to implement the lower court’s order and rebuild the damaged boundary wall. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G M Mohiuddin directed the Telangana director general of police (DGP) to examine systemic delays in executing lower court orders and consider issuing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure timely police assistance. Alleging that the police had failed to act, Venkat Reddy approached the high court. A single judge then directed the police to provide protection whenever he sought to put up the fence again.
Hyderabad : Raising concern over people having to approach the Telangana High Court to get police protection orders issued by lower courts enforced, the high court on Wednesday pulled up the police department for failing to act on such orders in several cases.
