Min cancels visit as FQL scam victims plan protest
The case has been transferred to the Economic Offences Wing and more than 20 people have been arrested so far. Thousands of people in Melur and nearby areas are alleged to have lost crores of rupees through FQL and VG Investment mobile applications.
Later in the day, minister Viswanathan said on X that he reviewed the case with Madurai collector Nishant Krishna and superintendent of police Devanathan. Police deployed barricades and additional personnel near the MLA office and other locations in Melur after word spread that investors would hold protests seeking arrests and recovery of their money. Police have held special camps over the past five days to receive complaints. A detailed report would be submitted to chief minister C Joseph Vijay and steps would be taken to ‘return the people’s money’ and provide relief to those affected.
Madurai: Higher education minister and Melur MLA P Viswanathan cancelled his scheduled constituency visit on Friday, citing official work, even as police received inputs that victims of the FQL cryptocurrency scam were planning to lay siege to his office.
