Nanded municipal corporation
Gopchade said a detailed traffic survey of Nanded was last conducted in 2005-06 and a fresh study was now necessary.
State urban development minister Madhuri Misal, in a letter to Rajya Sabha MP Ajeet Gopchade, said the state has started the process of preparing a Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for Nanded. In her letter, Misal said the govt is appointing a state-level nodal agency to prepare the CMP for Nanded’s municipal limits. “Once the agency submits the CMP, further necessary action regarding the establishment of a Metro rail system in Nanded will be taken,” the minister said.
Gopchade had urged chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and the Centre in December last year to introduce Metro rail in Nanded to improve the city’s transport infrastructure.
“Considering the growing population, sustainable mobility and the need to plan infrastructure for the next 20 years, a scientific traffic report in the form of CMP is essential,” he said. It will bring check on vehicle movement on roads and reduce air pollution,” said Sudhir Pathak, a resident of Holi area. “The govt should promote public transport in the form of Metro rail in Nanded.
