Kochi : The high court has granted bail to Keerthana K C of Kozhikode, a special educator at a block resource centre (BRC), who was arrested in an NDPS case by the Vatakara police as part of Operation Toofan.

Keerthana was arrested on June 28 after she was allegedly found in possession of 2.108g of MDMA.

She, along with the other accused, conspired to transport and sell narcotic drugs, according to the prosecution. It was further alleged that financial transactions related to the offence were carried out through Keerthana’s bank account, in contravention of the NDPS Act. Later, the police arrested two more teachers in connection with the same case.

The court granted bail to the petitioner on the condition that she execute a bond of Rs 1 lakh with two solvent sureties.

It further directed that she should not leave the state without the trial court’s prior permission and should appear before the investigating officer every Saturday.

the bench of Justice Kauser Edappagath noted that she had been remanded to judicial custody on July 11, the investigation was almost over, and the recovery had been effected While considering the bail petition. The court further observed that her continued detention was no longer required and accordingly allowed her bail petition.
