Contemporary cancer treatment moving in the right direction: Oncologist
The two-day event titled “41st AROICON TN & PY 2026” brought together nearly 300 premier radiation oncologists, healthcare experts, and researchers from across the region to deliberate on modern advances in cancer management under the central theme, “Precision at its Best”. Dr Vijayanand Reddy, eminent radiation oncologist and director of the Apollo Cancer Centre, Hyderabad, highlighted the paradigm shift in modern oncology. Reddy emphasised that contemporary cancer treatment is moving toward delivering the right treatment to the right patient at the right time, with the exact dose and technology required. He stressed that achieving true precision goes beyond technology alone, demanding accurate diagnosis and staging, individualised treatment planning, multidisciplinary decision-making, advanced radiation techniques, and the seamless integration of surgery, systemic therapy, and radiotherapy. Highlighting the patient-centric nature of oncology care, Reddy remarked that precision at its best is also about bringing together expertise, evidence, and empathy to deliver the best possible care to every patient. He further noted the importance of placing the patient at the absolute center of every treatment decision, reflecting the conference’s broader mission of uniting experts, advancing cancer care, and transforming lives.
