Lucknow: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said that there is the need to ensure that youth have access to books and said that young people should have their own book banks as the habit of reading can give a new direction to their lives.
UP, which was once known as a BIMARU state, has emerged from negativity over the past 10 years thanks to its youth. Talking about how digitisation reduced the distance between villages and cities, the CM said that libraries had been established in 57,600 gram panchayats across the state where books from The National Book Trust had been made available.
The CM said that the book was not only for children and had equally important lessons for adults as well. When a person’s courage begins to falter during difficult times, ‘Exam Warriors’ can become a source of strength and guidance,” he said. A good literary work, religious scripture, autobiography of a great personality or a book related to the research of a scientist can inspire a person throughout life,” he said. Calling Uttar Pradesh an important centre for Indian knowledge tradition, the CM said, “Nation and society become sick when they distance themselves from their heritage. India’s knowledge tradition progressed beyond ‘Shruti’ and ‘Smriti’ through scriptures, manuscripts, copper plates and various records, and passed from generation to generation,” he said.
Inaugurating Gomti Book Fair in Lucknow, the CM distributed copies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ’s book ‘Exam Warriors’ among children and encouraged them to read it and imbibe the lessons mentioned in it. “Every person goes through some examination in life. Sometimes for a degree, sometimes for a certificate course, and sometimes in various circumstances of life. He appealed to the youth to develop the habit of buying and reading books. “Whenever there is an opportunity to buy a book, along with curriculum books, priority should be given to books that develop creativity and positive thinking. India bore the consequences when attempts were made to confine its traditional knowledge in a narrow space. “Merely going to school, college or university and studying the curriculum does not make a person knowledgeable. To understand society, the country and the world, it is necessary to become familiar with different subjects and ideas.
