Gandhinagar: The state election commission (SEC) on Wednesday announced the schedule for the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) election along with byelection to vacant seats of other local bodies.
Voting for GMC and other vacant seats of local bodies will be held on Oct 11, from 7am to 6pm. Repolling, if required, at any booth will take place on Oct 12, and counting of votes will be taken up on Oct 13. Announcing the election schedule, the SEC said that the election notification will be published on Sept 21 and the last date for filing of nominations will be Sept 26. The last date for scrutiny of nominations will be Sept 28 and candidates will be able to withdraw their nominations until Sept 29. In the 2021 GMC election, BJP won 41 of the total 44 seats, Congress won two seats and AAP bagged one seat. Subsequently, both Congress councillors resigned and joined BJP, taking its tally in the GMC to 43 seats.

Byelections for seven seats of municipalities, district panchayats and taluka panchayats will also be held, the SEC said. Elections will also be held for the Okha and Thara municipalities. A control room has been made operational for the elections. Download the TOI App.
