Bijnor: Twenty-five madrassas in Amroha district were found closed during an inspection, with no students enrolled or attending classes, officials said on Sunday.
Amroha has 485 registered madrassas, including five aided and 480 recognised institutions, with around 2,350 students enrolled, according to official data. A 24-member committee, comprising three departmental employees and 21 assistant teachers from aided madrassas, was formed last month to inspect the institutions. The committee has so far inspected 210 madrassas, of which 25 were found to have stopped functioning. Officials said more than 200 children who had previously studied at the 25 madrassas have since been admitted by their parents to other madrassas and govt schools.
Details of students and institutions are required to be updated on the U-DISE portal every year. However, the department received information in July that some madrassas had not updated student details on the portal. “If the institutions do not resume operations and enrol students, their recognition will be cancelled as per the rules,” district minority welfare officer Naushad Hussain said. No students were present at the institutions, while their managers and principals submitted written statements confirming that the madrassas were no longer operating, officials said. Following the inspection, the minority welfare department has recommended deactivation of the Unified District Information System for Education (U-DISE) codes of the institutions and sent its report to the district basic shiksha adhikari. The madrassas found closed include Madarsa Rizwan-ul-Uloom, Nazirun Khatoon, Uwaisiya Qadriya, Khursheed-ul-Uloom, Islamia Arabia Iqra-ul-Uloom, Islamia Akhlaq-ul-Uloom, Islamia Navaid-ul-Uloom, Islamia Meraj-ul-Uloom, Islamia Anwar-ul-Uloom, Darish-ul-Uloom, Islamia Afaq-ul-Uloom, Islamia Anees Beg, Islamia Faiz-e-Najm, Islamia Jabbad-ul-Uloom, Islamia Arabia Khursheed-ul-Uloom, Islamia Samia, Islamia Fauzia-ul-Uloom, Jannat Nisha, Jamia Qadriya, A.A.
