New Delhi: Garbage collection vans in the city will soon be used to spread awareness among Delhiites whose names have been struck off the draft electoral roll prepared as part of Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
With the Sept 30 deadline not far away, the election commission is also using other mediums such as newspapers and radio jingles to reach out to the maximum number of people. Because of shifting and encourage them to submit applications within the stipulated period, “We are using multiple channels to reach voters whose names were deleted.
So far we have received a very low response for inclusions,” said an official. Special camps have also been planned on Sundays at all polling stations to facilitate submission of claims and objections.
Delhi, 84,263 Form-6 applications for voter card were submitted between Aug 31 and Sept 19, but they also included those by first-timers, according to the latest data released by the office of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO). According to the figures released by the Delhi election office for the claims and objections phase, 1,15,538 applications were received between Aug 31 and Sept 16. Besides Form-6 applications, they include 29,705 Form-8 applications for correction or modification of existing electoral entries such as name spelling errors, 1,396 Form-7 applications for request/objection for deletion of a name, and 174 Form-6A applications from overseas electors.
Because these voters have shifted from the given addresses, around 47.5 lakh names registered in the electoral roll have been deleted largely.
