Kolhapur: Shiv Sena (UBT)’s deputy leader Sharad Koli from Solapur has been detained for one year under Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act; he has been transferred to Yerwada Central Jail in Pune.
The 37-year-old leader is accused of sand theft, sand smuggling, extortion demands and inflammatory/provocative public statements. The order for preventive detention of Koli was passed by district collector S Karthikeyan on Sept 17, and Koli was nowhere to be found since then, according to the police. The MPDA law is invoked to curb dangerous activities committed by slum lords, bootleggers, drug offenders and sand smugglers. The local crime branch and Pandharpur Taluka Police started the search operation.
He was found hiding at a relative’s place in Sangli, from where he was picked on Saturday.
