The Kansas City Chiefs stars are trying to have a trademark lawsuit tied to their 1587 Prime steakhouse dismissed, but the company behind 1587 Sneakers is pushing back. The dispute began in February when 1587 Sneakers sued Mahomes, Kelce and others in federal court in New York. 1587 Prime combines Mahomes’ No. 15 with Kelce’s No. 87. The restaurant opened in September 2025 after the players partnered with Noble 33. 1587 Sneakers, however, says its business predates the restaurant. The sneaker company wants the restaurant to stop using the 1587 Prime name and seeks damages.

With arguments now filed on both sides, the case has added another layer of attention to the restaurant launched by two of Kansas City’s most recognizable athletes.

The dispute centers on the “1587” name, which both sides say has different roots and uses. The sneaker company argues that the use of “1587” by the Kansas City restaurant could confuse customers and affect its brand. The company began selling footwear and clothing in 2023 and later sought federal trademark protection for “1587” in the clothing category.

Mahomes and Kelce have taken a different position. Their legal team has argued that the players do not control the restaurant and do not have the necessary connection to New York for the claims to proceed against them there.
