Ahmedabad has nearly 20 schools in its eastern and western regions that have not yet received approval to include Std VIII in their primary sections. This delay comes despite the initiation of the process under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, which was established in 2011 to ensure educational access for all children. The absence of this approval affects the educational progression of students in these schools, raising concerns among parents and educators alike.
Under the RTE provisions, Std VIII was shifted from secondary section to primary section in schools across Gujarat in 2011. Approval orders were subsequently issued to schools after completion of the required procedures.
However, the issue has now resurfaced following the transfer of certain schools previously under the jurisdiction of Ahmedabad Rural and Ahmedabad district primary education officers (DPEOs) to Ahmedabad City East and West district education officers (DEOs).
Around 20 schools may still be awaiting approval orders, according to preliminary estimates. Schools must also submit complete details of approved classes in their primary and secondary/higher secondary sections as they existed in 2011. The exact number, however, will be known only after school managements submit the required details and supporting documents. Taking note of the matter, the Ahmedabad City School Management Association has asked concerned schools to submit evidence within a week. Schools that had submitted proposals, paid the prescribed fees through challans or possess any other relevant documents but did not receive approval orders have been asked to provide these records. Primary schools that were then under the district panchayat have been asked to specifically mention this information. Schools in the eastern area have been directed to submit documents at Shri Ganesh Vidyalaya on Nikol Gam Road, while those in the western area must submit them at Suman Vidyalaya near Naranpura crossroads.
