Two men were killed after an SUV allegedly hit them while they were crossing SG Highway near

SG-1 Traffic police registered an FIR based on a complaint by Lakhuben Devipujak (51), a resident of Daran village near Sanand. The deceased were identified as her 35-year-old son Ranjit and son-in-law Bahadur, also 35. Police identified the driver as 28-year-old Jaydeep Kambliya, a resident of Hirawadi.

Investigators said he allegedly abandoned the vehicle after the crash and attempted to escape, but people caught him and handed him over to the police. Police also recovered a red board displaying a human-rights logo with label “Human Rights Foundation of India”. Kambliya allegedly told police that neither he nor any member of his family held a position in any human rights commission or organisation and that he had placed the board inside the vehicle himself.

The driver allegedly abandoned the vehicle and tried to flee but was caught by people at the spot and handed over to police. Police booked Kambliya under BNS provisions pertaining to causing death by negligence, rash and negligent driving and causing hurt, besides provisions of Motor Vehicles Act . Accident accused allegedly posed as human rights activist Police investigating the fatal accident allegedly involving Jaydeep Kambliya also found an identity card purportedly issued by the Human Rights Foundation of India and a board carrying human-rights logos inside the SUV.
