the Cockroach Janta Party announced the release of its leaders from detention by Delhi Police
They had been placed under preventive detention by Delhi Police ahead of the party’s proposed ‘Jantar Mantar 2.0’ protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The detention of the three leaders came amid a wider police crackdown ahead of the proposed protest, during which more than 7,000 people were detained, including opposition leaders, activists, student leaders and journalists. The action came after Delhi Police denied permission for the planned demonstration, citing law-and-order concerns, public safety and possible inconvenience to residents.
The party had also expressed concern over Dipke’s access to his family after his grandmother’s death, with the family preparing for her last rites on Sunday.
