The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

New Delhi: Delhi Police said it would investigate multiple videos that had surfaced on social media purportedly showing protesters misbehaving with women police personnel during demonstrations in New Delhi.

One of the incidents took place on Oct 10 near Akashvani Bhawan, where protesters allegedly continued to gather despite prohibitory orders under Section 163 of BNSS being in force. At least 15 women police personnel have been injured during recent demonstrations in New Delhi.

Police told the group that unauthorised gatherings were prohibited, but the protesters allegedly ignored the warnings and remained at the spot. Another video from New Delhi showed a woman cop being “pushed” during a confrontation with two other women. In one video, a woman constable is seen being pushed while some protesters appear to tug at her uniform. Other videos show protesters allegedly hurling abuses at women police personnel deployed to manage the gatherings. This led to a tense situation as personnel attempted to disperse the crowd and prevent it from moving towards restricted areas. In another incident, a woman cop sustained injuries during a scuffle as police attempted to manage the crowd and secure the barricades. Protesters were allegedly pushing the barricades and attempting to move them, while police personnel were trying to put them back in place. A confrontation broke out during the process, and the cop claimed she was injured. The footage purportedly showed the women pulling at her uniform before one of them pushed her, triggering an argument. The exchange took place as police personnel attempted to manage the gathering and enforce restrictions in the area. The incidents have brought renewed attention to the safety of women police personnel deployed to handle protests.
