Hyderabad: A 55-year-old truck owner allegedly died by suicide inside his vehicle in Khammam in the early hours of Saturday.

Three Town police inspector Chittibabu said a case was registered based on a complaint lodged by Venkanna’s son, Gopi Raja, and an investigation was taken up. However, he recently sustained injuries and was unable to drive the truck regularly, making it difficult for him to keep up with his loan repayments. He had defaulted on his monthly instalments for four months, and pressure from the finance company had reportedly mounted. In the early hours of Saturday, Venkanna took the drastic step inside the truck’s cabin. Venkanna is survived by his wife, son and daughter. The incident triggered protests by members of the Khammam town lorry owners’ association, who alleged that harassment by the finance company had driven Venkanna to take the extreme step.
