Hyderabad: BC welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar has received notices from election authorities for discrepancy in his father’s name in the voters list, and Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud has submitted proof of his name over discrepancy in 2022 and 2023 voter rolls.
Ponnam Prabhakar’s office said his father’s name was spelled as Satyam and Satyanarayana in two different electoral rolls due to which he was served with notice to submit proof of rectification. Meanwhile, Hyderabad district congress committee (DCC) president Syed Khalid Saifullah on Friday raised concerns over what he described as serious gaps in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across Hyderabad, saying inadequate voter details and non-supply of crucial lists were hampering field-level verification and efforts to assist genuine voters.
Because the discrepancies, according to the party, continued to remain in the electoral rolls despite the SIR exercise, saifullah said the issue was even more concerning.
Saifullah, who visited ward sabhas being conducted at polling booth locations and interacted with Booth Level Agents (BLAs), party workers and election officials, said political parties were expected to participate in the verification process but had not been provided the information required to identify and assist voters whose entries needed scrutiny, correction or additional documentation. He said one of the major problems concerned the Absent, Shifted and Dead (ASD) lists supplied for verification, which did not contain house numbers or adequate address particulars. He said the problem was particularly serious in densely populated parts of Hyderabad, where locating a voter merely on the basis of a name and limited locality details could be difficult.
The anomaly and unmapped voter lists had also not been provided to political parties, despite the chief electoral officer (CEO) having directed all BLOs and EROs to share these lists with political parties.
