Hyderabad: The deletion of a large number of voters as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is likely to have a bearing on the electoral dynamics in the Khairatabad assembly constituency.
Khairatabad election officer N Shankar told TOI that more than 1.23 lakh of the constituency’s 2.93 lakh voters had been deleted from the rolls for reasons including being unavailable, having shifted, being deceased or being duplicate voters. Election officials said that while the total number of voters were 2.93 lakh as on June 10, 2026, the draft list published as part of the SIR saw the numbers coming down to 1.7 lakh voters. Of these 1.7 lakh, notices have been served on 81,000 voters including 42,000 for no mapping and lack of details and another 39,000 for anomalies.
“The names of voters across all communities are getting deleted as part of SIR for various reasons,” Ramakrishna said. BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan, one of the front-runners to get party ticket from Khairatabad in the likelihood of a by-poll, said reaching out to a lesser number of voters will be relatively easier for contesting candidates. All eyes will be on the Supreme Court as it is set to hear this week Danam Nagender ’s petition against his disqualification as an MLA by the high court. With by-election a possibility in the Khairatabad constituency, political parties are closely watching the impact of the voter deletions. “These voters could be supporters of Congress, BRS and BJP. This is the first election being conducted after SIR started in Telangana and one has to wait and see if the deletions would end up benefiting any one or more parties or damage their electoral prospects. But definitely, the deletions of voters in such large numbers will have impact on the electoral prospects of the candidates and political parties. There is also talk in political circles that the contesting candidates may now have to reach out to fewer voters than in the previous election. This means that there is a possibility of the number of voters coming down further when the final voters list after the SIR is completed is published.
