Because of a lack of coordination with Centre, the minister claimed that Bengal had lagged

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Kolkata: Bengal is looking to adopt the best practices from across the country to improve the execution of road and highway projects to ensure faster delivery, stronger monitoring, safer highways and better construction quality.

State PWD minister Ajay Kumar Poddar along with senior PWD officials and engineers attended the two-day ‘Gati Shakti Se Pragati’ national conclave organised by the Union ministry of road transport and highways in Gujarat on Oct 5 and 6 where discussions centred on sharing successful models adopted by different states and finding ways to overcome common hurdles in road infrastructure projects. Because of a lack of coordination with Centre, the minister claimed that Bengal had lagged behind in national highway development while TMC was in office.

Poddar said the practices and technologies showcased at the conclave would be studied for their possible adoption in Bengal. He stressed that better coordination between departments and with Centre would be crucial to ensuring that road projects are completed within stipulated timelines.
