“It has been pointed out that there was mismatch in respect of the number of stone crushers operating as disclosed by the different authorities,” the order issued last week said. The bench comprising NGT chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member Ishwar Singh noted complete information was not furnished despite specific directions issued earlier, and various affidavits and compliance reports placed on record. The tribunal, however, exempted principal secretary, West Bengal Pollution Control Board member secretary and Birbhum district magistrate from personal or online appearance, modifying its earlier order requiring their presence.
