Sub-inspector Sushma G Bhandary received information around 3.30 am that cattle were being transported illegally in a pickup vehicle from a farm in Aryapu village, Puttur taluk, towards Kerala, according to police. Mangaluru : A pickup vehicle allegedly transporting cattle illegally to Kerala was seized by Puttur rural police early Monday, after the driver and another occupant abandoned the vehicle and fled.
A case was registered at Puttur rural police station under Sections 4, 6, 7 and 12 of the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, 2020, and Section 11(d) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Police said the cattle were being transported towards Keralam without the required permission, allegedly for slaughter and sale of meat. The SI, along with police, left in a department vehicle and intercepted the pickup around 4am at Biliyurkatte in Balnadu village on the Parladka-Vittal road. On seeing the police vehicle, the pickup driver stopped on the left side of the road and fled along with another person who was in the vehicle. The vehicle was found covered with a tarpaulin. Police found cattle of different breeds tied tightly with ropes, allegedly in a manner causing cruelty.
