Bengaluru: A routine ride home turned into an ordeal for a showroom worker-cum-part-time bike-taxi captain after three armed muggers ambushed him, robbed him of his bike and left him bleeding. Police have arrested two people, including a rowdy-sheeter, in connection with the incident.
He had signed up as a Rapido bike-taxi captain on Oct 2 after work to earn additional income using his Royal Enfield bike, according to a complaint filed by Shivaraj. Around 7.45pm, shortly after dropping off a passenger at the Hosapalya bus stop whom he had picked up from Kudlu Gate, Shivaraj was heading towards Garvebhavipalya. As Shivaraj screamed for help, the pillion rider pulled out an object and struck him on the forehead, the back of his head and his left arm, causing heavy bleeding, the complaint said. A senior officer said Kodandarama claimed that they robbed Shivaraj of his bike following a minor accident and argument, but police believe he is falsely telling the accident story. When he was near a bakery in Hosapalya, three miscreants on a two-wheeler suddenly blocked his path. The trio allegedly robbed him of his bike, with one assailant speeding off on the two-wheeler. The remaining two muggers forced Shivaraj onto their scooter, sandwiching him between them, and rode him a short distance away. As Shivaraj attempted to call a friend for help, the miscreant sitting behind tried to grab the phone. Local residents, alerted by the victim’s cries, rushed towards the spot. Fearing capture, the duo dumped the bleeding Shivaraj on the road and sped off into the darkness. Shivaraj then alerted police and, with the help of locals, rushed to a nearby hospital where he underwent treatment. Bendepalya police, who verified the CCTV footage in the surrounding places, arrested rowdy Kodandarama and his associate Kamalesh while the third accused, Nayan, is at large along with the bike. Kodandarama assaulted Shivaraj with his iron bracelet. Download the TOI App.
