Artists who participated in the ‘Plein Air on Rocks’ painting workshop held amid the historic boulders of Chitradurga Fort
Chitradurga: The massive boulders and distinctive rock formations of Chitradurga Fort came alive on canvas as artists from Chitradurga, Davanagere and Badami participated in a plein-air painting workshop, ‘Plein Air on Rocks’, held for the first time amid the historic landscape. The workshop began at Thimanna Nayaka Lake. Artists set up their easels in the open and captured the fort’s striking rock formations, natural beauty and unique landscape through their paintings. Working outdoors under the sun, they explored the interplay of light, shadows and the rugged terrain that gives the historic fort its distinctive character. The initiative was conceptualised and coordinated by Chitradurga-based artists T M Veeresh and Dada Chitradurga. The workshop aimed to provide artists from different places an opportunity to exchange ideas, explore new creative approaches and interpret the region’s natural and historical heritage through art. Artists M R Pattar, Achyutananda B, Shantayya Paradimath, Avinash Acharya and Murali from Davanagere, Dinesh from Badami, and Niranjan Murthy, Venkatesh Reddy and Shivakumar from Chitradurga took part in the programme. Senior writer Mrutyunjayappa was also present. The artists displayed their completed paintings at the end of the session, offering glimpses of the fort’s distinctive landscape through varied artistic perspectives.
