Hubballi: An enquiry report on alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Smart Health System under the Smart City project at Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation’s (HDMC) Chitaguppi Hospital has remained pending for nearly a year after being submitted to mayor Jyoti Patil in Nov 2025. The HDMC floor committee, headed by former mayor Veeranna Savadi, found that works worth over Rs 3.2 crore were inadequate and cited a lack of coordination between HDMC officials and Hubballi-Dharwad Smart City Limited (HDSCL). HDMC had introduced the system under the Smart City project at a cost of more than Rs 3.5 crore.
Savadi and committee members Iresh Anchatageri, Shivu Hiremath, Raju Kamathi and Mayur More submitted the report after investigating the disappearance of the Smart Health System from the hospital. It was designed to provide electronic health records, virtual healthcare services, smart diagnostics and hospital management software. The project envisaged quick access to patient records, telemedicine-based monitoring of vital parameters and video consultations between doctors and patients. It also included an artificial intelligence platform for automated disease prediction and classification related to diabetic retinopathy, breast cancer, skin disorders and liver and kidney functions. An integrated pharmacy vending machine with QR code-based prescription validation and a medicine validation module was also part of the project.
