Nitin B, 44, who lives with his family in an apartment, told police the missing ornaments were discovered on Oct 25 around 11.30am. On checking further, the couple found 17 gold chains, two necklaces, four bangles and a pair of jumukis were also missing. Nitin told police a woman from Vinayaka Nagar, central Bengaluru. had been working as a help in their house since 2011. His wife had last seen the jewellery on June 5. Nitin filed a complaint on Nov 3 at Ashok Nagar police station, seeking legal action against the domestic help and her daughter and recovery of the stolen jewellery. A case has been registered under BNS Section 306 (theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master), and the suspects are being questioned.
His wife opened the locker to find her gold thali chain missing. He suspects she or her daughter, who also worked in the house whenever her mother was unavailable, could have taken the jewellery.
He said the safe locker key was kept in a pouch next to the locker, and both family members and the domestic help were aware of its location.
