Dharwad : The massive farmers’ march organised by the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) and Hasiru Sene, over fixing sugarcane prices and fulfilment of various other demands, entered Dharwad district on Sunday, as the agitation continued despite efforts to persuade the protesters to call it off.
The administration was therefore considering allowing the farmers to stage their protest near Yarikoppa.
The DC said that the high court had issued an interim order restraining farmers from staging a sit-in near Union minister Pralhad Joshi’s residence. However, the CM’s efforts to convince the farmers failed to yield the desired result, prompting them to continue their march. Meanwhile, in the wake of the high court’s interim order restraining the farmers from staging a protest in front of Union minister Pralhad Joshi’s residence, the farmer leaders held a meeting to chalk out their next course of action.
The agitation was expected to subside at Kittur following a meeting with chief minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday. On Sunday, the fifth day of the agitation, the farmers reached Guledakoppa, near Dharwad.
