Koppal: JD(S) state core committee member CV Chandrashekhar has criticised the Karnataka govt for not declaring Koppal a drought-hit taluk, terming the decision a “grave injustice” to farmers.
He said JD(S) leaders had visited farmlands across the taluk, collected field-level information and submitted reports to the district administration. “The govt’s data and the actual situation in villages are vastly different. Its refusal to declare Koppal drought-hit reflects complete indifference towards farmers,” he alleged.
In a statement issued on Friday, Chandrashekhar alleged that the govt relied on computer-generated data and central guidelines while assessing drought conditions, ignoring the ground reality.
Warning of protests, he demanded compensation of at least Rs 30,000 per acre for affected farmers, besides free seeds and fertilisers for the upcoming rabi season.
