Students at educational institutions in the twin cities said they faced difficulties identifying platforms and navigating their way tin crowded terminals. They said locating washrooms and other facilities was particularly difficult during peak hours. Arun Lokannavar, a visually challenged commuter who regularly travels between Gokak and Hubballi-Dharwad, said the absence of clear guidance forced him to depend on strangers, conductors and other commuters for directions. He said there is always the risk of either missing a bus or boarding the wrong bus or being pushed around in crowded waiting areas. Lokannavar said there is an urgent need to restore proper public address systems at all major terminals and those in taluk centres. NWKRTC managing director Priyanka M said ramps have been built at all bus terminals. In addition, Braille-enabled maps and timetables would be provided after discussions with NWKRTC traffic officials and visually challenged commuters, she said.

To make matters worse, at times bus boarding platforms are changed without clear announcements. He also sought Braille-enabled charts to provide information on timetables, platforms, washrooms, eateries and other facilities.
