A state transport bus driver and conductor, whose bus halts overnight in a nearby village and carries 40-50 students from 15-20 villages to Khed, saw the blocked road on Friday morning and alerted Ratnagiri officials. The ghat road, which reaches an elevation of about 4,200 feet, is not typically used for inter-district travel and mainly serves local commuters, including students and residents travelling to Khed for work, visits, and shopping. The work was halted, and officials have decided to use blasting to clear the road, said Ajay Suryawanshi, Ratnagiri district disaster management officer. Ratnagiri PWD and police inspected the site on Friday and brought heavy machinery to clear the debris, but the boulders could not be removed even with breakers. Operations will resume on Saturday.
