Kolhapur: Amid drought-like situation, the Kolhapur forest department will run a three-day special campaign from Oct 9 to 11 to boost water availability in forest areas, strengthen water conservation efforts, and safeguard natural water sources that are critical for wildlife and biodiversity.
As part of the drive, the officials plan to construct over 250 check dams across forest tracts, with volunteers and local residents taking an active role in the work.
“The campaign will rely on wide-ranging participation from local citizens and villagers, community-based organisations, media representatives, women’s self-help groups, government departments and agencies, NGOs, forest and nature enthusiasts, youth and students, and other interested residents,” a forest department official said. “More than 250 check dams will be built in forest areas during a three-day water conservation campaign,” deputy conservator of forests Dhairyasheel Patil said. Interested individuals should contact the nearest forest department office to register their participation and provide the necessary details,” Patil said.
“We appeal to all nature enthusiasts to participate in large numbers and contribute to this people’s movement for water and forest conservation.
